Our Approach to Religious Education

At St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, Religious Education is central to our identity as a Catholic community. Students come to know Jesus, explore the Catholic tradition, and connect faith with their own lives and the world. Learning is guided by the Religious Education Framework, which emphasises Knowledge and Understanding, Reasoning and Responding, and Personal and Communal Engagement.

Knowledge & Understanding

Students are introduced to the rich tradition of Scripture, Church teaching, Sacraments, and prayer. They learn about the life and teachings of Jesus and the values that underpin the Catholic faith. This knowledge is explored in age-appropriate ways, from Bible storytelling in the early years to deeper theological inquiry using the Catholic Social Teachings in the senior years.

Reasoning & Responding

Religious Education is not just about learning content — it is about thinking critically and responding thoughtfully. Students are encouraged to ask big questions, wrestle with ideas, and explore how faith connects to justice, ethics, and daily life. They learn to express their own ideas respectfully while considering different perspectives, developing the skills to respond with compassion and conviction.

Personal & Communal Engagement

Faith is lived, not only learned. Students are invited into prayer, liturgy, and celebration as part of the school and parish community. They engage in social justice initiatives, community service, and outreach that bring Gospel values to life. This dimension helps children see that their faith has purpose and impact, shaping them as people who contribute to the world with hope, love, and justice.
