Our Approach to Social Emotional Learning
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships
Our approach combines explicit teaching through the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Curriculum with the embedding of SEL across all learning areas and daily interactions. In this way, students develop both the knowledge and the practice to thrive as learners and as people.
Each week, every class participates in a dedicated SEL session using the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Curriculum. These lessons focus on key areas such as:
- Emotional literacy
- Personal strengths
- Positive coping
- Problem-solving
- Stress management
- Help-seeking
- Positive gender relationships
By building these skills explicitly, we give students the language and strategies to manage their emotions and interactions in healthy, respectful ways.

Embedded Practice
Beyond the weekly lessons, SEL is woven into the fabric of school life. In the classroom, on the playground, and throughout all classroom interactions, students are encouraged to practise empathy, respect, teamwork, and resilience. Teachers model and reinforce these behaviours daily, making SEL a natural part of learning and community.
Personalised Learning & Support
For students who require additional guidance, we offer small-group interventions that draw on the Social Minds resources and framework. These groups provide explicit opportunities to practise skills such as emotional regulation, problem-solving, and relationship building in a supportive environment. By tailoring strategies to individual needs, we help students strengthen their confidence, resilience, and capacity to engage positively in the classroom and beyond.
