Student Leadership

At St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, student leadership is seen as an important part of wellbeing and agency. When children are given opportunities to lead, they develop a stronger sense of belonging, purpose, and confidence. Leadership allows students to see that their voice matters, their actions make a difference, and they are trusted members of the school community.

Student Leadership Structures:

Students take on a range of leadership roles that allow them to contribute to the life of the school:

School Captains – represent student voice, lead assemblies, and promote our Positive Behaviours for Learning values of Respect, Responsibility, and Safety.

Sports Captains – build school spirit, encourage participation, and model teamwork and fair play.

ICT Leaders – support digital learning, encourage safe and responsible use of technology, and share expertise with peers.

FIRE Carrier Leaders – promote reconciliation and cultural awareness as part of our commitment to being a FIRE Carrier School.

These roles give students the chance to practise skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and responsibility, all of which strengthen both their learning and their wellbeing.

Leadership & Wellbeing

Leadership is more than a title — it is a pathway to agency, resilience, and connection. By providing students with opportunities to lead and serve others, we help them develop confidence, empathy, and the ability to contribute positively to their community. Every student is encouraged to see themselves as a leader in their own way.
