Attendance - Every Minute Matters, Every Day Counts!

At St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, we regularly monitor attendance data to ensure every child is supported. While it is normal for students to miss school when they are genuinely unwell, sometimes absences can reflect challenges or worries at school. In these cases, we encourage families to work with us so we can help children face these difficulties and continue attending.

Why Attendance Matters

Daily school attendance is essential for every child’s success. Research shows that children who attend school regularly:

  • Stay connected with friends and teachers
  • Get the most out of their learning
  • Understand the full lesson or concept being taught
  • Build resilience by working through challenges
  • Learn valuable problem-solving and social skills

Even a few days missed can add up over time, affecting both learning progress and wellbeing.

Punctuality

Being late to school is also a concern. Students who arrive late often miss important morning routines, key literacy lessons, and may miss out on intervention programs. Consistent, on-time attendance helps students start the day settled, organised, and ready to learn.

Reporting Absences

If your child is absent, please notify the school with the reason:

  • Call the school office
  • Send a message to the school mobile: 0478 257 845
  • Email the school

When collecting your child during the school day, please avoid break times (11:10–11:30am and 1:40–2:10pm), as it can be difficult for staff to locate students and for students to gather belongings promptly.
