F.I.R.E Carrier Program
What is the F.I.R.E Carrier Program?
F.I.R.E. Carriers (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) is a student-led initiative that promotes reconciliation through learning, leadership and action.
At St Thomas Aquinas, the program:
- Builds students’ understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions
- Encourages respectful dialogue and truth-telling
- Develops student leadership in promoting inclusion and cultural awareness
- Strengthens connections between faith, justice and action
- Supports our commitment to reconciliation in practical and meaningful ways
Through education and advocacy, our F.I.R.E. Carriers help ignite understanding across our school community.
School Events & Commitments
Our school also nurtures links with the broader community. This includes recognition and celebration of important events, such as:
National Reconciliation Week.
NAIDOC Week celebrations.
Daily Acknowledgement of Country in classroom spaces and school gatherings.
First Nations perspectives throughout learning units.
Initiatives promoting awareness and inclusion such as participation in “The Great Book Swap”.
These experiences strengthen belonging and build a culture where students see learning, faith, and community working hand in hand.
Together We Thrive
Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) provides a structured framework for strengthening relationships, respect and opportunities within our school community.
Through our RAP, we are committed to:
- Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across curriculum areas
- Building authentic partnerships with local First Nations communities
- Providing ongoing professional learning for staff
- Creating culturally safe and welcoming spaces
- Ensuring reconciliation is an active and ongoing journey
Our RAP is a living commitment to walking together with humility, respect and hope.
